Texas A&M Turf Patent Recognized

DALLAS – Dr. Ambika Chandra, lead turfgrass breeder, and Dr. Dennis Genovesi, research scientist, both from the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Dallas, have been recognized for their research initiative that culminated in the invention and patent of the drought-tolerant St. Augustinegrass DALSA 0605, now marketed as TamStar.

The patent on DALSA 0605 was published in November, but a ceremony of recognition by the Texas A&M Office of Technology Commercialization was held in May at the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center, inside the George Bush Presidential Library Complex, College Station, Texas.

There, Chandra, lead inventor of the newly patented St. Augustinegrass, was presented a plaque for the achievement alongside turfgrass ecologist and invention contributor Dr. Ben Wherley. Genovesi, Chandra’s co-inventor, was unable to attend the ceremony.
